What happened
United Airlines has announced plans to introduce a new subfleet of Airbus A321neos branded as "Coastliners" specifically for premium transcontinental routes. The first aircraft are expected to enter service this summer, with 40 deliveries planned by early 2028. The new configuration features 161 seats: 20 Polaris business class seats in a 1-1 configuration, 12 Premium Plus seats in a 2-2 configuration, and 129 economy seats in a 3-3 configuration. A key benefit change is that passengers flying in the forward Polaris cabin on these flights will gain access to United Polaris Lounges, a first for transcontinental flights. This move replaces aging Boeing 757-200s and allows United to free up widebody aircraft for long-haul international routes. The aircraft will feature a special livery paying homage to coastal destinations
