United takes first A321neo Coastliner for early 2027 transcon service

What happened

United has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321neo Coastliner, a jet with 20 Polaris suites and 12 Premium Plus seats slated for Newark to Los Angeles and Newark to San Francisco in early 2027. The aircraft is meant exclusively for the airline's most premium coast-to-coast flying after Airbus delays pushed the debut past a summer 2026 target.

Polaris occupies 10 rows of suites with sliding privacy doors in a one-by-one configuration and includes Polaris Lounge access. The cabin is similar to United's A321XLR, and the jet arrived with a special exterior wrap. United has 50 Coastliners on order for the coming years. It also has 50 XLR jets on order.

Points travellers on those transcontinental routes will get lie-flat Polaris suites with lounge access and a Premium Plus cabin instead of a typical domestic layout. JFK is not a confirmed first route and would follow only after United returns there. Watch for an early 2027 debut on Newark to Los Angeles and Newark to San Francisco.
