What happened
United will restart Houston Intercontinental to Chihuahua on March 28, 2027, using a Bombardier CRJ-550 on a route Cirium data shows the airline last flew in 2020.
The CRJ-550 was originally a 70-seat CRJ-700 and now has 10 first-class seats. Extra-legroom economy and standard economy each have 20 seats. Chihuahua’s tourism secretary said the flight should improve connectivity and that it reflects North American visitor interest. United becomes a U.S. carrier at Chihuahua alongside American Airlines.
The Chihuahua restart sits in a broader 2027 growth slate. United is dropping Tulum in January. The restart arrives amid high jet-fuel prices, with United’s CEO warning that money-losing flying may be cut in 2027 if prices stay high. MileagePlus members get a new northern Mexico destination from Houston, but only on a regional jet with 10 first-class seats.
