What happened
Southwest is taking up to 40% off select flights booked by September 17, 2026 for travel from October 5, 2026 through March 3, 2027. The discount applies automatically with no promo code.
The cut is taken before government taxes and fees. Not every itinerary is discounted, and savings are often far below 40%. Restrictions and blackouts apply. Pre-discount prices may have been raised, so the advertised sale may not be a true reduction.
Anyone holding a Choice or higher ticket can modify the booking if a lower cash or points price appears, and the difference comes back as points or flight credit. Basic tickets cannot be changed except to a higher fare. Flight credits from Basic tickets last 6 months from the original booking date, while Choice and higher credits last 12 months.
Search Southwest for travel from October 2026 through March 2027 and reprice any Choice or higher trip already booked, or search from scratch if the fare is Basic.
