What happened
Korean Air Group began fitting Starlink hardware from 1 September 2026, with free Wi-Fi in all cabins on equipped Korean Air and Asiana 777-300ER and A350-900 long-haul jets. The service replaces Korean Air's $20.95 long-haul Wi-Fi fee and is described as low-Earth-orbit broadband.
Installation is gradual and will not cover every aircraft quickly. Airbus A380s are not in the first wave. Jin Air will begin with Boeing 737-8s, and rollout order differs by carrier. The group's low-cost airlines may still charge for Wi-Fi. Korean Air targets fleetwide installation by the end of 2027 after Asiana integration. Peak speeds are listed at 500 Mbps. Travellers who skipped Korean Air and Asiana over slow paid Wi-Fi get free high-speed access once those jets are equipped.
Treat free Starlink as live first on Korean Air and Asiana 777-300ER and A350-900 long-hauls, not on A380s or the group's LCCs.
