Korean Air keeps Asiana miles separate for 10 years

What happened

Korean Air will hold existing Asiana miles in a separate balance for 10 years after the airlines combine, still redeemable on the Asiana award chart, including for Korean Air flights. New miles post to SKYPASS once the combined airline launches.

Members may convert that balance to SKYPASS at any time. Flight-earned miles convert at 1:1. Partner-accrued miles convert at 1:0.82, an 18% reduction. Unused balances automatically roll over in 2036.

Asiana elite status is matched into Korean Air's ladder. A new Morning Calm Select tier includes SkyTeam Elite Plus. Korean Air must keep award-seat performance at or above the two carriers' combined 2024 level for 10 years. Long-haul award space to the Americas, Europe and Oceania must meet or beat the 10-year peak recorded in 2023.

Keep flight-earned Asiana miles in the separate balance to use the old chart, and weigh the 18% haircut before converting partner miles.
