United will fly Las Vegas to Tokyo Narita on Polaris Studios 787-9

What happened

United is adding a brief Las Vegas to Tokyo Narita operation from January 3, 2027, timed to CES, with its new Polaris Studios Boeing 787-9 only on the January 9 to 11 Las Vegas departures. CES 2027 runs January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.

The 787-9 has 56 Polaris business-class suites. Premium Plus has 35 recliners. The main cabin has 123 seats, 33 of them Economy Plus. Tokyo-origin flights on January 3 to 5 will instead use an older Boeing 777-200ER. The flying is not a regular Las Vegas to Tokyo schedule. United usually keeps these 787-9s on high-demand premium routes from its San Francisco and Houston hubs.

The Points Guy notes the Polaris Studios 787-9 almost never appears in Las Vegas. That puts United's nicest cabin on a city pair that does not otherwise see it. Skip the Tokyo-origin trips if the Polaris Studios 787-9 is the reason to book.
