What happened
United will award 2028 MileagePlus Premier status solely on Premier Qualifying Points earned in 2027, ending the Premier Qualifying Flight track. The 60-flight path to 1K, which currently pairs with 22,000 PQPs, disappears. 1K will require 32,000 PQPs, 4,000 more than the current PQP-only bar of 28,000.
Silver stays at 6,000 PQPs. Gold stays at 12,000. Platinum stays at 18,000. Members still need 4 United or United Express flights, and partner-airline flights do not meet that floor. 2026 qualification is unchanged. United says most members already qualify on PQPs and frames the shift as simplification.
Eligible cobranded cardholders, including those who open a card by Dec. 31, get a 5% PQP head start as 2027 begins. Silver members receive 300 PQPs and 1K members receive 1,600, with Gold at 600 and Platinum at 900. The Club card earns one PQP per $15 spend up to 28,000 a year, so card spend alone cannot reach 1K. Do not plan 2027 status on year-end segment runs, and hold or open an eligible United card by Dec. 31 for the 5% head start.
