What happened
A 32-year-old man was found hiding in a lavatory on a parked JetBlue aircraft at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after climbing an eight-foot barbed-wire fence late Saturday night. Police say he entered a remote maintenance area and used portable stairs still attached to an open rear door after overnight work. One Mile at a Time reports he went unnoticed for hours until a security inspection.
Around 4:25 a.m. Sunday the doors were closed and the jet was towed toward the terminal for a scheduled flight with him still inside. The disruption of service cost JetBlue about $2,400. He is in jail on a $10,000 bond. The FBI and TSA opened investigations.
One Mile at a Time frames the climb as a rare physical feat rather than a missing stretch of fence, and still expects cameras to have flagged movement at the Jetscape maintenance facility. A hidden passenger on a jet being towed for departure can delay flights and raise safety concerns. Watch JetBlue or FLL for official updates if the investigation affects operations.
