IHG starts paying points on master-billed group stays

What happened

IHG One Rewards is beginning to credit a flat nightly points award and elite qualifying nights on master-billed group stays of at least $30 a night if the member's number is on the reservation before checkout. Members used to earn nothing unless they paid the hotel themselves.

The change is rolling out in phases at select hotels. Stays must be booked through specified IHG channels. The Greater China minimum is $10 a night. The nightly award is a flat amount that depends on brand and region rather than master-bill spend. Regent credits 1,500 points a night. InterContinental credits 1,500 outside Greater China and 1,000 inside it. Holiday Inn credits 500 outside Greater China and 250 inside it. Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites credit 250 points a night. Eligible charges on the master bill earn nothing beyond that flat award.

Room charges paid directly at checkout earn standard points instead of the flat award. Elite bonus points and registered promotions can still apply. Partner rewards are replaced by IHG One Rewards points on these stays.

Put the membership number on the reservation before checkout and confirm the hotel is already participating.
