Delta's pilot union unanimously ended accelerated contract talks after management demanded major scheduling concessions it will not accept, One Mile at a Time reports. Negotiators were directed to return to traditional Section 6 talks under the Railway Labor Act. The current contract was ratified on March 1, 2023 and becomes amendable on December 31, 2026. The union will finalize strategy at a meeting the week of August 24, then talks resume.
Any change to Delta's trip-pickup software must be bargained into a new contract. That software limits recovery from irregular operations while letting pilots earn extra pay on those trips. Pilots have set up a site calling reliability unacceptable and urging customers to complain to regulators. Without a fast-track deal, the status-quo system remains.
Frequent Delta flyers should expect slower recovery from weather or operational breakdowns until a new contract can change the scheduling setup. Watch Delta reliability around disruptions, because a near-term contractual fix is off the table.
