What happened
Delta has equipped nearly 1,300 aircraft with free Delta Sync Wi-Fi, leaving Boeing 717s and most regional jets on paid service until early 2027. Full-fleet completion slipped past an end-2025 target and is now expected in early 2027.
Unequipped aircraft still sell paid Wi-Fi from ViaSat or Wi-Fi Onboard. A banner above the itinerary on Delta's site shows whether a given trip should have the free product. The remaining 717s and CRJ-700/900s are next in the rollout, and Embraer 170/175 regionals still do not have it. Delta says more than 195 million Sync sessions have been logged since 2023, with coverage claimed on six continents.
SkyMiles members now get free inflight Wi-Fi on mainline jets, with paid service mostly limited to 717s and remaining regionals. A March 2026 Amazon Leo deal is meant to add faster connectivity around 2028.
Check the Wi-Fi banner on each itinerary. Until early 2027 that banner is the only sure signal.
