What happened
British Airways will require 8,000 Tier Points for Silver from 1 April 2027, 500 more than today, while cutting Club World bonus points from 500 to 200. Gold moves to 21,000, a 1,000-point increase. Members chasing Gold Guest List will need 70,000 Tier Points, 5,000 more. Renewal of that status will take 45,000, another 5,000-point increase.
The Bronze bar is 3,500 Tier Points. A Gold Upgrade Voucher for two will need 37,000 Tier Points. Two vouchers for one person will need 53,000. On BA-marketed flights the cheapest World Traveller Plus bonus falls from 275 to 175. First drops from 650 to 300. American Airlines and Iberia long-haul premium economy now credit 175 bonus points. Their long-haul business bonus is now 200, with first at 300.
Short-haul economy bonuses are unchanged. Short-haul business and long-haul economy bonuses also stay the same. Lifetime Gold status does not require requalification. Member emails describing the changes have been confusing and wrongly personalized. The rules get more complicated and continue to reward expensive premium tickets.
Status chasers need to budget for the April 2027 bars and thinner premium-cabin bonuses, while lifetime Gold members can skip requalification.
