What happened
United filed plans to drop nonstop Newark-Lima flights, and a spokesperson said the suspension takes effect March 27, 2027. Remaining flights will keep operating until then, giving travelers time to adjust.
The airline will double daily Houston-Lima flights the same day, adding the extra flight when Newark service ends. United has served Lima from the New York area since 2012. Continental previously flew Newark-Lima as far back as 1996. The Peru change comes days after United unveiled a large 2027 international expansion and said it was not cutting recently launched long-haul destinations.
New York-area flyers lose a long-running nonstop to Lima and will likely connect, while Houston-based travelers gain an extra daily flight on the remaining United gateway. Book remaining Newark-Lima nonstops through March 27, 2027 if that routing is required, or shift Lima trips to Houston once the extra daily flight starts.
