United Says SFO Flight Delays May Improve Within 2-3 Weeks

United Airlines reports that a new FAA approach could increase landing rates at SFO within 2-3 weeks, offering relief from a 60% surge in delays caused by runway construction and side-by-side landing bans

What happened

United Airlines announced that flight delays at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) may improve within the next two to three weeks following a new FAA approach to increase hourly landing capacity. This follows a period where significant delays surged 60% due to runway construction (scheduled to end in October) and an FAA ban on side-by-side landings. United COO Toby Enqvist noted that while operations may not return to 100% pre-disruption levels immediately, improvements are expected. The news comes as FlightAware data showed 45% of SFO-bound flights delayed on Monday and ground delays averaging 55 minutes on Thursday
