What happened
On Monday, March 2, 2026, around 11:50 AM at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), United Airlines experienced a runway incursion. United flight UA530, an Airbus A321neo arriving from Chicago (ORD), was cleared to land on runway 24R and instructed to hold short of the parallel runway 24L. The pilots confirmed they would hold short. Simultaneously, United flight UA152, a Boeing 787-9 departing for Hong Kong (HKG), was cleared for takeoff on runway 24L. The A321neo crossed runway 24L without authorization just as the 787-9 was accelerating. Air traffic controllers caught the error, instructing the A321neo to cross immediately and canceling the 787-9's takeoff clearance. The 787-9 aborted at 106 knots, resulting in brake overheating and a return to the gate. Flight UA152 was delayed by approximately eight hours, departing at 7:13 PM instead of 11:10 AM. The incident occurred during a chaotic period at LAX, with another United 787 being evacuated on the south side of the airport, shifting operations to the northern runways
