What happened
Qantas will operate 238-seat Airbus A350-1000ULRs on a 9,950-mile nonstop from Sydney to New York starting in mid-2028, with tickets going on sale in August 2027. The route will be the first regularly scheduled nonstop between Australia and New York and the world's second-longest flight.
Eastbound flying time is expected around 18 hours and westbound around 20 hours. The 10,573-mile Sydney to London Project Sunrise flight is planned for October 2027. The airline has 12 A350-1000ULRs on order. These aircraft will introduce a new first-class suite and a business seat with a door.
Qantas is aiming to charge about 20% more than fares that include a connection. Daily 787-9 one-stops via Auckland are set to keep flying after the nonstop starts. There is nothing to book until tickets go on sale in August 2027.
