What happened
Lufthansa is experiencing a major labor disruption with back-to-back strikes from both pilots and flight attendants. Pilots struck on March 12-13 and again on April 13-14. Flight attendants struck on April 10 and are currently on strike through April 16. Pilots are returning to the picket line on April 16-17, creating an overlap that grounds the airline for five consecutive days (April 13-17). The strikes are driven by disputes over pay and pensions. Management has rejected the pilot union's proposal for binding arbitration. The disruption is particularly acute as it coincides with Lufthansa's 00th anniversary celebration. A vast majority of flights departing from Germany are being canceled.
