Discover will add 13 A350-900s starting in 2027

What happened

Discover Airlines plans to acquire 13 Airbus A350-900s, taking four former Lufthansa jets in 2027 to 2028 and nine new aircraft from 2029, with the first long-haul flying from Frankfurt to Calgary and Frankfurt to Orlando. The first aircraft is expected in June 2027 and will fly short-haul for crew familiarization before those routes.

The four used jets are the ex-Philippine Airlines A350s Lufthansa bought in 2021, with Thompson Aero Vantage XL business seats Discover is expected to keep. A second A350 in December 2027 is slated for San Jose and Belize City. The third and fourth are due in summer 2028. Discover's long-haul fleet is now 13 A330-300s. By mid-2028 Discover expects that fleet to reach 20 aircraft, including extra former Lufthansa A330s. Lufthansa Group is shifting more flying to Discover, including Seattle service Lufthansa is dropping. Interiors on the nine new A350s from 2029 have not been announced.

The A350s give Discover a better business-class product than its 2-2-2 A330 cabins, starting with those four jets. Discover is also adding a new off-the-shelf business class on the existing A330s. Watch Discover's 2027 Frankfurt schedules and later cabin details on the 2029 aircraft.
