What happened
Lufthansa Group is ending website and app check-in that relies on a booking reference and surname, beginning October 20, 2026. Travel ID is the group's shared login for digital tools and is not Miles & More. Online check-in will require it once a market is live.
The first wave covers Schengen departures but skips Germany. Austria and Switzerland are delayed too. U.S. flights need Travel ID from November 16, 2026, the same day as Canada and Mexico. Munich and Zurich move then as well, with Frankfurt and remaining regions on November 30. Eurowings and ITA Airways sit outside the change for now.
Anyone without a Travel ID has to check in at an airport counter or kiosk. A ticket from another airline does not need the account, nor does a Lufthansa Group ticket flown on another carrier. A single Travel ID can check in several travelers. A Miles & More number attached to it may keep later bookings crediting there.
Create a Travel ID before the next Lufthansa Group flight that needs online check-in, and before U.S. departures switch on November 16, 2026.
