What happened
Lufthansa Group has announced an accelerated implementation of its fleet and capacity strategy due to increased kerosene costs and labor disputes. The measures include three steps: 1. Immediate and permanent removal of Lufthansa CityLine’s capacity from the program. The 27 operational CRJ aircraft are being removed to reduce losses. 2. At the end of the summer flight schedule (October), the retirement of the last four A340-600s and grounding of two B747-400s. 3. During the 2026/2027 winter flight schedule, an additional capacity reduction of five aircraft in the Lufthansa core brand’s short- and medium-haul program. Additionally, nine A350-900s will be allocated to Discover Airlines. The move aims to reduce unhedged fuel costs by removing inefficient aircraft
