What happened
American Express now expects a 30,000-square-foot Centurion Lounge in Terminal A at Newark in 2027 rather than 2026. That footprint is well above the original 18,000 square feet and would make it the largest lounge in the Centurion network.
The lounge will occupy two floors with a theme built around New Jersey culture and food. Plans include a Blue Roast coffee and wellness bar plus three bars inspired by the state. Food will come from the Culinary Collective, with dishes from James Beard Award-winning chefs. After opening, American Express would have proprietary lounges at all three New York-area airports. Newark has few notable lounge options besides United today.
The project was announced years ago and has already missed earlier targets. Watch for a 2027 opening at Newark if Centurion Lounge access is already on the card.
