What happened
JetBlue has implemented an immediate increase in checked bag fees, raising them by $4 for off-peak periods and $9 for peak periods. The airline cites rising fuel costs as the driver for this revenue boost. Under the new structure, a first checked bag costs $49 if paid more than 24 hours in advance during peak times, and $59 if paid within 24 hours of departure. The $10 discount for advance payment remains. JetBlue states the hike is intended to keep base fares competitive despite higher operating costs
