What happened
World of Hyatt stopped automatically crediting 500 bonus points a night at newly opened hotels on October 1, 2026. Members must book a New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate at eligible new properties to earn extra points.
That rate pays standard base points plus an equal bonus, typically an extra 5x per dollar at most Hyatts, capped at 25,000 bonus points per qualifying stay. The rate cannot be stacked with Hyatt Prive or other discounted rates. It can price above the cheapest cash rate and may have a tighter cancellation window. Award nights no longer earn 500 bonus points a night, and a $0 rate produces a negligible bonus except on incidentals.
A cash rate of about $100 or more before taxes typically beats the old 500-point nightly bonus. Cheaper stays generally earn less. The 25,000-point bonus cap takes about $5,000 of eligible spend on a single stay.
Book the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate only when it is cheaper than other cash options, and do not count on 500 bonus points for award nights at new Hyatts.
