What happened
RIU will take over the 465-room Grand Hyatt Barcelona on April 1, 2027 and reflag the historic Hotel Princesa Sofia as a Riu Plaza, dropping it from World of Hyatt. The 19-floor hotel sits near Camp Nou in Les Corts and entered Hyatt in 2018 as Unbound Collection Hotel Sofia before becoming a Grand Hyatt in April 2024. It will become the 14th hotel in the Riu Plaza urban line.
Hyatt's website still accepts bookings for nights after the handover. Paid stays typically continue through a flag change unless the hotel shuts for renovations. Points bookings almost never survive a reflag.
Hyatt's remaining Barcelona hotel is Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower, a property by the airport rather than downtown. Do not book World of Hyatt awards at Grand Hyatt Barcelona on or after April 1, 2027, since paid reservations are more likely to be honored.
