HSBC shuts Australia Star Alliance card on 18 November 2026

What happened

HSBC is exiting Australian retail banking and will close the Star Alliance Credit Card on 18 November 2026, with Star Alliance Points earning ending after 17 November 2026.

Holders can still earn on eligible spend through 17 November 2026. HSBC will deposit remaining points into the Star Alliance Rewards account. Allow 14 business days for the last points to post. From 18 November 2026, spend earns nothing and does not count for status. Card terms end with the product.

Points can still be converted into miles at 7 airlines. No conversion deadline has been published. Miles already in frequent flyer accounts stay there. Status already issued by a member airline does not change. An update on the card's Silver and Gold benefits has not been issued. The Rewards portal remains open.

Keep earning through 17 November 2026 then move the points into an airline program before conversion closes.
