Chase Aeroplan card takes 15% off Air Canada award points

Multiple sources

What happened

The Points Guy finds that a 100,000-point Air Canada award costs a primary Chase Aeroplan cardholder no more than 85,000 points. The 15% cut arrived with the card's September refresh and applies only to primary holders.

At least one segment must be operated by Air Canada or its Express and Rouge affiliates. Mixed itineraries with a partner can still qualify. Entirely partner-flown trips do not. Authorized users do not get the discount. The reduction covers every passenger on the reservation. Pooled family-account points can pay if the balance is large enough. Only the points portion of the base fare is reduced.

The discount stacks on a Priority Reward, which first takes 50% off the points price for one passenger. The Points Guy's example lands at 12,750 points, over 57% off. Priority Rewards exclude basic economy and cannot be transferred. Every flight on the itinerary must fit the voucher. The discount survives a change only if the booker remains the primary cardholder. Keep the card linked and book Air Canada-operated awards to take the 15% cut, stacking a Priority Reward when one is in hand.
