What happened
Delta has been selling about 80% of the 44 first-class recliners on a trial A321neo and now treats oversized first-class cabins as a lasting strategy. Chief commercial officer Joe Esposito called the 11-row cabin an experiment in the long-term size of first class. It occupies almost half the aircraft. Most of the airline's single-aisle jets carry 20 first-class seats.
Regulatory delays kept Delta One lie-flat suites off those A321neos, so Delta installed the 44 recliners instead. The airline plans to put 24 first-class recliners on future 737 MAX 10 jets, 20% more than most Delta planes today. Delta expects nearly 8% more premium seats than in 2025 and fewer economy seats. The next Delta One suites arrive on the A350-1000 in 2027.
Paid demand for premium seats has surged and is already making complimentary Medallion upgrades harder to get. Watch first-class award space and Medallion upgrade clearance as the larger cabins arrive.
