Discover it Secured deposit drops to $49 from $500

What happened

Capital One has cut the refundable deposit on the Discover it Secured Cash Back Credit Card to $49 from $500 after stopping applications on June 2, 2026. The deposit becomes the credit limit, with a floor of $200.

The rest of the card matches the old Discover it Secured product. Rotating categories still pay 5% cash back and other purchases pay 1%. A cash-back match applies in the first year. Graduation to unsecured status returns the deposit.

Doctor of Credit says Capital One left the rewards intact and did not add predatory fees. Few secured cards pay 5% in rotating categories and match cash back in year one.

Apply if a secured card is required; the $49 deposit and first-year match survived.
