What happened
LoyaltyLobby reports that British Airways quietly revised its partner-earnings page this week so Japan Airlines-marketed international flights use a thinner Avios chart, dated 1 April 2021, when another airline operates them. The higher chart is dated 1 April 2025. There is no note that the rules had changed.
British Airways The Club members get the higher chart when Japan Airlines operates the flight. A JL-coded sector flown by British Airways or Iberia uses it too. Business (J, C, D, I) earns 250%. First (F) earns 300%. Business low (X) earns 150% and premium economy flexible earns 150%. Any other operating carrier pays 125% in business and 150% in first. Business low falls to 70%. Premium economy flexible falls to 100%. Economy buckets stay the same on both charts, from 25% to 100% depending on fare class.
LoyaltyLobby reads the thinner chart as covering every operator outside those carriers, not only Oneworld. Avios may be denied on some JL codeshares. BA’s website text is the reference to use in a claim.
Confirm who operates a JL-coded ticket before counting on Avios, and save BA’s chart text if a deposit fails.
