American Airlines Temporarily Alters London Heathrow Catering Due to Provider Disruption

American Airlines is double-catering flights to/from London Heathrow from the US due to a catering provider issue, resulting in reduced meal choices, boxed wine in premium cabins, and 10,000 AAdvantage mile compensation for affected passengers

What happened

American Airlines has temporarily cut ties with its local catering provider at London Heathrow (LHR), causing significant changes to the inflight dining experience. Since late February 2026, the airline has been double-catering flights, meaning all food and drinks for the return journey are prepared and loaded in the United States. This has led to limited galley space and modified catering, including fewer meal choices, no ice cream sundaes or seafood, and the substitution of bottled wine with boxed wine in First and Business Class. The airline is emailing affected customers to apologize and credit them with 10,000 AAdvantage miles. The disruption is attributed to a potential mice infestation at the catering facility, though the provider denies this. The airline states it is evaluating suppliers and working to resolve the issue
