What happened
One Mile at a Time reports a reader who ticketed a six-segment Aeroplan business-class award from Lisbon to Mumbai for 80,000 points plus CAD 192.40, then cancelled it without flying. The routing was TAP Lisbon to Madrid and Aegean Madrid to Athens. Lufthansa flew Athens to Frankfurt and Austrian continued to Vienna. Ethiopian ran Vienna to Addis Ababa to Mumbai.
Aeroplan will ticket up to six sectors on one award, provided flown mileage stays inside twice the city-pair figure. The Lisbon to Mumbai city pair is 4,989 miles and the flown-distance maximum was 9,978 miles. Trip time ran 50+ hours. The full set of flights was issued on one phone call after the reader gave the agent flight numbers and IATA codes. European business class covered the opening four flights. Ethiopian supplied a complimentary transit hotel for the Addis Ababa layover.
A single-entry Schengen visa forced departure by 24 June with no return into the zone. The reader dropped the ticket when another redemption looked better, then dropped that one as well.
Nothing is bookable from this cancelled trip, but other Aeroplan partner awards can still be built inside the six-sector and twice-mileage caps.
