New Caledonia Sheraton and Le Méridien hotels reflag as Series

What happened

LoyaltyLobby reports already-affiliated resorts in New Caledonia have dropped to Marriott's Series brand. The former Le Méridien Noumea is now La Domaine Noumea. The former Le Méridien Ile Des Pins is now Le Domaine Oro. The former Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Resort & Spa is now Le Domaine Deva. Hotels can keep their existing names, so the Series affiliation may not be obvious.

Series sits among Marriott's collection brands as the lowest-quality, select-service option. Brand standards are highly flexible, so quality can range from a former upscale hotel to a much weaker property. LoyaltyLobby's author found the hotels acceptable as Sheraton and Le Méridien properties in the mid-2010s. Le Méridien Noumea then felt like a lighter W. The author says Series was built for easy conversions, not for already-affiliated hotels dropping to a cheaper flag.

Bonvoy members at these New Caledonia hotels now earn half the points and elite nights they would have under Sheraton or Le Méridien. LoyaltyLobby takes reduced earning outside the US as a sign that Series hotels pay a lower loyalty participation fee. Treat a stay at these properties as a reduced-earning Series night, not a full Sheraton or Le Méridien credit.
