French unions warn of Air France walkout Oct 17 to 21

What happened

Unions representing 36,000 cockpit and crew members have called a walkout at Air France from October 17 to 21, 2026, over pension changes that would prevent staff from taking a pension while remaining employed. The unions have also asked remaining staff to stay off the job on those dates.

The dates coincide with the start of a French fall school holiday. Other carriers that employ France-based crews could be affected too. Walkouts in Europe are often called off before they start, and not every flight would be grounded even if this one proceeds, but the threat still leaves schedules in doubt.

Delay compensation under EC 261 may not apply because the dispute targets pension policy rather than the airline. Passengers still keep the right to care and to be rebooked, including on other airlines.

Watch Air France flights from October 17 to 21 for disruption, along with other carriers that use France-based crews.
