What happened
Lufthansa is ending complimentary seat reservations, including extra-legroom seats, for Senator and HON Circle members on Economy Light intercontinental fares for bookings on or after October 27, 2026. Those members previously selected seats at no charge on every fare, extra-legroom and exit-row included.
Keeping the perk now requires Economy Comfort rather than Economy Light, at up to US$100 extra per segment. Regular Economy long-haul fares still include complimentary seat selection, as do non-Light Premium Economy and Business. The rule covers flights flown by several Lufthansa Group carriers plus ITA Airways. LIGHT fares can also come with reduced or no carry-on baggage.
Book at least Economy Comfort on these long-haul flights from October 27, 2026 to retain complimentary elite seat selection, and confirm LIGHT baggage allowances before buying.
