What happened
Lufthansa is introducing a new business class cabin on its Airbus A380 fleet, utilizing the Thompson Aero Vantage XL product rather than its newer Allegris seats. The first aircraft (registration D-AIMC) entered service today, April 23, 2026, and will operate select frequencies from Munich to Boston, Delhi, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Washington. The second aircraft (D-AIMH) entered maintenance on April 21, 2026. The retrofit project is taking place in Dresden, with all eight A380s expected to be reconfigured by mid-2027. The new business class features a staggered configuration with direct aisle access, 58cm seat width, and at least 2m bed length. The business class cabin size is shrinking from 78 to 68 seats. First class (8 seats), premium economy (52 seats), and economy (371 seats) remain largely unchanged, aside from minor entertainment upgrades
