What happened
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has resigned from his position effective immediately, citing "personal reasons." The Dutch national, who previously served as KLM's CEO, joined IndiGo in September 2022. His departure is widely expected to be linked to the airline's historic operational meltdown in early December 2025, caused by new crew fatigue rules that disrupted pilot scheduling. Elbers faced significant backlash and conducted an apology tour. The timing also coincides with broader sentiment in India regarding foreign leadership at its top carriers, as Air India's CEO Campbell Wilson was appointed around the same time. Elbers is credited with expanding IndiGo's long-haul ambitions and introducing a premium cabin. His replacement is expected to be an Indian national
