What happened
Emirates President Tim Clark announced that the airline will offer insurance to passengers traveling to or through Dubai to alleviate fears of being stranded if flights are grounded due to the ongoing Iran War. This move is designed to counteract the 60% drop in transfer passenger traffic, which has been hindered by travel insurance products excluding war zones. While Emirates has returned to profitability and resumed roughly 80% of pre-war operations, the company notes that many European-style annual comprehensive policies do not cover the region. The announcement comes as Gulf carriers (Etihad, Qatar Airways) also operate at ~80% capacity, with Gulf Air at 100%. The insurance will cover rebooking on other airlines or repatriation if Emirates flights cease operations
