What happened
Delta will start twice-daily Los Angeles to Monterey service on December 19, 2026, on Delta Connection Embraer E175s, as part of a push to become LAX's top carrier by summer 2027. A daily Philadelphia flight on Airbus A321neos follows from June 7, 2027.
Frequencies rise on seven existing routes. Raleigh-Durham goes to twice daily from April 12, 2027. Boston is set for five daily from May 6 and San Diego for five daily from June 7. Seattle reaches eight daily from July 11. Cincinnati goes to twice daily the same day, with Houston and San Antonio each going to three daily.
Delta and its partners say they will offer more than 200 daily LAX departures to nearly 70 destinations at the summer 2027 peak. The carrier wants the number-one slot after years of the big three trading the lead, and claims it will be the only airline with multiple daily flights in all of LAX's top 10 markets. LAX is highly competitive and no airline has really grown there profitably so far, so the payoff is unclear.
