What happened
Citi ThankYou Points now transfer to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank, with a 30% bonus through October 24 that turns 1,000 points from annual-fee cards into 1,300 miles. Eligible no-annual-fee cards receive 910 miles per 1,000 points during the bonus, versus 700 at the standard rate.
Citi had not offered this oneworld partner before. Partner awards must be on a single carrier. A LATAM Miami to Lima business award costs 42,000 miles one-way or 60,000 roundtrip. American Airlines Miami to Madrid is 85,000 miles roundtrip. With the bonus, Europe business roundtrips priced at 85,000 JAL miles come to about 66,000 Citi points. Air France transatlantic business can cost fewer miles than Flying Blue and avoids Flying Blue-level surcharges. JAL award space is weaker than before, and partner inventory can differ from other oneworld programs.
