What happened
Choice Privileges has raised award prices at additional hotels among the 101 it has in Japan, and Comfort Hotel ERA Tokyo Higashi Kanda and Comfort Hotel Hakata now cost 25,000 points a night, up from 15,000. Many Comfort and Ascend hotels that had been 15,000 points now cost 20,000 a night. Some Japan hotels are at 30,000 points.
More hotels now price awards at 15,000 points. That group includes properties that had been 10,000 or 12,000 points plus newly listed hotels. Comfort Hotel Hakodate is at 10,000 points a night. LoyaltyLobby lists the Japan hotels that now require more than 8,000 points.
Award nights in Japan had stayed cheap on points even where cash rates run high. The latest change follows earlier Japan award increases in early June and last month. Cash rates at many domestic Japan hotels can still be modest, so the higher award prices are harder to justify. Price any Japan Choice award against cash before booking.
