What happened
Doctor of Credit reports that Chase is automatically converting some original Freedom with Ultimate Rewards Visa cards to Freedom Unlimited Visa Signature by November 20, 2026. After the upgrade, 5% rotating quarterly categories end and the new card pays 1.5% cash back on all purchases.
Chase has done this kind of automatic product change before. Cardholders should keep using the current card until the conversion posts. A new physical card is on the way, and mobile wallets update on their own. The account number stays the same, though the expiration date and CVV may change. Existing rewards move over automatically.
If you want rotating 5% categories, call Chase and request a product change to Freedom Flex instead of accepting Freedom Unlimited.
