What happened
British Airways (BA) issued a statement to the Financial Times regarding a status extension error in its loyalty program. While initially claiming that a very small number of BA Club members were renewed according to normal guidelines, subsequent "forensic" analysis revealed a technical issue. This error resulted in up to 130,000 members being incorrectly told they retained status when they had not earned it or were not entitled to it. BA will contact these affected customers in the coming days to apologize and reinstate their correct tier status. This represents a significant program change for a large segment of the airline's elite membership
