Thailand to add 31 countries to Suvarnabhumi e-gates by August 2026

What happened

LoyaltyLobby reports an in-principle go-ahead to let returning visitors from 31 extra nationalities use automated immigration at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, aiming to roll the change out in stages by the end of August 2026. Those 31 countries have not been named. The immigration memorandum still needed signatures when the August 17, 2026 report ran.

The plan would add Auto Gate access for 6.5 million extra short-term visitors a year and 900,000 long-term visa holders. Thai citizens already use the lanes. Repeat visitors from Singapore and Hong Kong gained access about a year earlier. Fingerprints and a photo already on file allow immediate use; first-time arrivals enroll at a staffed desk. A separate account requires a visit on that passport in the previous year. Visa types that qualify have not been spelled out. Even passengers who appear eligible have been refused. At full operation the automated lanes would cover 53 percent of inbound international passengers.

Frequent visitors from the new countries could skip Suvarnabhumi's long manual lines once biometrics sit in the database.

Hold off on counting on e-gate entry until the 31 countries are named and the lanes are confirmed in operation.
