Marriott Faces Class Action Over Undisclosed Resort Fees on Award Bookings

Marriott Bonvoy is facing a class action lawsuit alleging 'drip pricing' for award bookings, where resort fees were not disclosed upfront in the points price on the app

What happened

Marriott Bonvoy is facing a class action lawsuit alleging 'drip pricing' for award bookings, where resort fees were not disclosed upfront in the points price on the app. The lawsuit alleges that while Marriott correctly disclosed fees for cash bookings, it failed to do so for points redemptions. Specifically, the app displayed 'Taxes & fees included' next to award prices, but excluded mandatory resort/destination fees which members had to pay separately in cash. Marriott's website was updated to show these fees, but the app continued to display only the points price. The case covers approximately 288,019 reservations made by California residents between July 2024 and August 2025. Marriott profits from these fees as franchise revenues are calculated from gross room sales, which include mandatory fees
