Delta May Swap A321neo Business Class Seats to Thompson Aero VantageSOLO Amid Certification Delays

Delta may abandon its Safran Vue seats for A321neos in favor of Thompson Aero VantageSOLO due to ongoing FAA certification issues, potentially altering the business class product on its premium transcontinental fleet

What happened

Delta Air Lines is reportedly considering switching the business class seats on its A321neo fleet from the Safran Vue to the Thompson Aero VantageSOLO. The decision stems from prolonged FAA certification delays for the original Safran Vue seats, which have caused significant disruptions to Delta's premium transcontinental rollout. The first A321neo with the new cabin was delivered in 2024 but spent over a year in storage before Delta installed a temporary 44-seat domestic first class configuration. While the original timeline projected the intended cabin by 2028, certification hurdles may force a switch to the VantageSOLO, a seat also found on JetBlue A321LRs and similar to American's A321XLR product. This change would impact the specific seat product and comfort profile for passengers on Delta's high-demand transcontinental routes
