Crowne Plaza Frankfurt Congress Hotel shut at 11:00 a.m. Monday

What happened

Hamburg operator Novum Hospitality halted operations at the Niederrad Crowne Plaza at 11:00 a.m. on Monday after citing fire protection and asbestos problems. It also said the hotel's insurance was no longer adequate. Guests already staying there were moved by bus to other Frankfurt hotels the same day. Remaining staff learned only at the start of the week that the hotel would stop that Monday morning.

About 50 employees are affected. The works council chair and deputy were fired the previous Friday and banned from the site. Germany's NGG union said dismissing elected works-council members without notice violated co-determination rules. Novum said it could not agree renovations with the building owner.

LoyaltyLobby found the hotel still listed as bookable on IHG after October 5, probably because inventory was not fully removed. Anyone who books those dates risks being relocated or stranded.

Do not book this Crowne Plaza, and anyone holding a reservation should rebook or confirm an alternate IHG stay.
