What happened
Chase has updated the earning structure for the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business cards. Cardholders now earn 8 points per dollar spent on rental cars booked directly through Chase Travel. This is a significant increase compared to the standard 3 points per dollar for general travel or 1 point per dollar for other purchases. The update is effective as of June 2026. Cardholders can still utilize the annual $300 travel credit for rental car purchases, though bonus points are not earned on the portion covered by the credit. Primary rental car insurance remains a key benefit when the card is used to book the rental and the agency's collision damage waiver is declined
