What happened
Asia Miles has stopped issuing new Japan Airlines award tickets and blocked changes to existing awards that include JAL flights, a freeze Cathay Pacific says lasts until further notice. Already-issued Japan Airlines award tickets remain valid to fly as booked.
Cathay gave members no duration or reason. It did not reply to press questions. LoyaltyLobby found no JAL award space via Asia Miles on a Tokyo Haneda to Osaka Itami search, while space still appeared on American Airlines. The post calls it uncommon for a program to cut off an established alliance partner.
Keep any Japan Airlines award already ticketed and skip new bookings or changes in Asia Miles until Cathay restores JAL inventory.
