Boeing's flagship 777X program faces another delay, with certification now expected in 2027 rather than late 2026. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg confirmed that while the 737 MAX 7 and MAX 10 are progressing, the 777X's ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards) validation will extend into 2027. This pushes the commercial entry-into-service window further out, impacting fleet renewal strategies for major customers including Emirates (270 on order), Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, British Airways, and ANA. The program has accumulated $15 billion in overruns since its launch in 2013
